Monday, March 11th, Day 123

1.) Discussion/One Word Image

a.) Character creation (physical characteristics/preferences/fears/talents)

b.) Problem: use generic problems first, then specific

NOTA BENE: I have found that discussing the characters possible problems briefly in English is way more efficient and clear that trying to stay in the TL.  After we settle on two or three interesting choices, it is easier to continue from there in Latin.  This also can serve as a brain break after the Latin only character creation session.

2.) Write and Discuss: write first, then copy (time for artist to finish)

  2. Problem. (opening exposition for the story)

1.) Partner Reading/Choral Translation

based on yesterday’s class text generated by the “Write and Discuss” activity.

3.)  Write and Discuss: Summary of the OWI story

4.) Quick Quiz (comprehension of “Write and Discuss” Story)


Wednesday, March 13th, Day 125

1.) Reading Game: Alea Iacta Est/Word Chunk Game Variation

Using the an elaborated version of the story.

2.) Read/Write and Draw: ending of the story (4 sentences/pictures)

Goal: complete the OWI story in 4 sentences.  Sentences 1 and 2 are the crisis of the story (the main character fails, and Sentences 3 and 4 are the surprising conclusion.  I do not have these sentences pre-planned, but treat this as a “Write and Discuss” with the exception that rather than copying the story down, student provide illustrations to the story to demonstrate comprehension.  I also switch to simple translation (rather than illustration) if time is running short.



Thursday, March 14th, Day 126

1.) Introduce Free Voluntary Reading (FVR)

After introducing some of the novellas and giving the students an idea about where to begin, students select a book from the shelf and read for 3 -5 minutes.

2.) Watch and Discuss/Extensive Listening (Class Movies)

Prep Time: 30 minutes (10 minutes per class)

3.) Kahoot: premade “True and False” quiz (based on the class film)

Prep Time: 0 minutes

Friday, March 15th, Day 127

1.) FVR

The general pattern for the rest of the year: FVR at the beginning of class Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

2.) Dictatio: (based on yesterday’s “Watch and Discuss”)

Prep Time: 15 minutes

3.) Reader’s Theater: using short versions of the other class’s stories.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

4.) Timed Write
